We enjoyed our stay in Amsterdam very much. Our room was spacious and comfortable. Thank you very much.

Very comfortable rooms. Very friendly and helpful people working in the hotel. Very comfortable situation in the "centre" of Amsterdam. Must be recommanded !!

Very beautifull hotel in a quite street. The staff was very helpfull although the night-porter didn't speak French. But he tried very much to understand us. The Barman was great. We can recommend this hotel very much.

Hotel was quite comfortable, and even had air conditioning!! Very important this summer. Very convenient location. Having parking available was also a plus, but can't reserve so arrive early if you want it. Another reviewer complained about non-smoking room smelling smoky, but had no such experience myself. Friendly staff, generous breakfast. Overall, very high marks, would stay there again, ABSOLUTELY!

I wanted to thank the local agency and the hotel staff for making our stay in Amsterdam that pleasant and joyful. The hotel is very nice and cozy, located on a quite residential area street but still close to all the major attractions of the city. The hotel personnel extremely welcoming and willing to help with anything you may ask for. We liked the buffet breakfast very much - good choice of bread, chees, fruits, yogurts, juices. afterthe breakfast it was nice to go to the nearby canal and sit at the water for a while. The major centers for Amsterdam nightlife Rembrandtplein and Leidseplein are just steps to the hotel, as well as the city cultural centres such as Rijk museum and Van Gogh museum. We enjoyed walks in the Vondel park which is also not far from the hotel. It is not very easy to find the hotel when you come for the first time, so I wanted to give some tips on how to get there. From the central train station take trams 16, 24 or 25 and travel five (or six, I do not remember exactly) stops until the end of the Vijzelstraat. The street Noorderstraat which you need is located transversely to Vijzelstraat and parallel to the canals on your left as you come from the train station. You need to cross the Vijzelstraat and walk some 50 meters back from the tram stop to Noorderstraat. The hotel is located some 150 meters away from the corner on the right side of the street. There is a sign there so you won't get lost. After your first day in Amsterdam you would know the way to the hotel better than the way to your house :) Thanks a lot and hope to stay with you again!

My wife and I stayed four nights in this hotel, which we found very pleasant and well run. In particular we appreciated the quietness of the area combined with a still fairly central location.

This hotel was in a lovely location-very close to the seven bridges area of the eastern canal ring. It was also very close to quite a few very good Indonesian and Thai restaurants. Rooms were adequate-though even non-smoking rooms reeked of tobacco. Breakfast was very good-staff competant even if not exactly informative or friendly. We would stay here again.

in our opinion it was (at least for my better half) a little bit noisey ,as was was said by another reviewer, especially in the morning ie,5.30am,again ! as said by the same reviewer .big shout for the barman imel ,he needs toget some umberellas + cherries?. location about 20 minutes from main entertainment ,in spring would be a nice walk ! quiet nice breakfast ,relaxed and apart from noise in morning ,would recomend if dont mind a short walk,

01.04.2003 Mandy & David (Knaresborough, North Yorkshire, England)
We found the hotel to be really nice. We paid for a taxi to get us there from the train station so we had no trouble finding it. The hotel is situated in a quiet street which was most pleasing. The room was quite adequate with a very nice en-suite bathroom. The added extras included cable T.V. and the usual mini bar, hairdryer and safe. It was all kept exceptionally clean. The staff were indeed very helpful and friendly and the breakfast was really nice. The location is fairly central but the lovely thing about Amsterdam is that you go out of you hotel and just wander, we did not need to use a tram. The area is very nice with an excellent steak house on the same street. All in all it was a great place to stay.

Nice friendly hotel. The staff were very helpful. Breakfast excellent. Room just a little small but it wasn't a problem

24.03.2003 martin williams (england)
A very pleasant hotel great service and polite staff, very economical a freind stayed in an other holtel that weekend but it was no where near as nice as yours many thanks

06.03.2003 J.Martinez (USA)
Quiet, clean and affordable. Three things I was looking for in a nice hotel. You can also add friendly, helpful and efficent when it came to the staff dealing with guests. The breakfast buffet was filling and met everyones needs in my party of four. I would stay there again in a heartbeat, because outside of the aforementiioned qualties it's location provides you with easy access to your lovely city Thanks again. ciao, J>M> Martinez

05.03.2003 Lizzie (Dublin, Ireland)
I thought the Hotel was exceptional for a 3star plus but like all rooms in Amsterdam quite small and basic but there is a telly and mini bar which always comes in handy if you want to prolong your party. I will tell you, that under no circumstances should you walk to the city centre it is to far, 25min walk.I suggest you take the tram, which is 5mins walk from the Hotel and will only cost you €1.30.I will say the Hotel is really clean but the breakfast - the only hot food is eggs so if you want a big fry you won't get it here. All in all I would recommend this Hotel and I would stay again with out any hesitation.

05.03.2003 Carl (New Jersey, USA)
The staff was great, the rooms a bit small, but comfortable and clean. Breakfast was plentiful. The location was fine, I believe we used the 16 or 24 to get home. I would definately go back in the future.

04.03.2003 Robert & Margaret (Pembroke Pines, Florida)
The hotel is difficult to find and not sign posted. Once you locate the entrance the hotel was just great. Rooms good size, well equiped, clean and neat. The breakfast buffet is one of the best I have seen in Europe and yes, you can order fried or scrambled eggs. The barman - Amin- was very friendly and helpful as was the entire hotel staff. It is a quiet location but just a few blocks from a Tram stop. The closest Tram stop, just down the block, is no longer operational due to construction. I would recommend this hotel and would surely stay there again.

02.03.2003 Brendan (Washington, DC)
Very nice. In a quiet residential area. Pleasant staff. Comfortable rooms. Reasonably priced. Will definitely stay there again.

17.02.2003 BÄrbel (Germany)
we had a very pleasant stay at the hotel, which is - thank God - not located in the more touristic places close to the station, but in short walking distance of museums, restaurants, bars and cinemas. The only drawback is the bar of the hotel. It cannot be recommended due to its lack of atmosphere. All in all we can highly recommend this hotel.

17.12.2002 Helge (Norway)
The hotel was sort of 'hidden' from the main street in a very quiet area. The room was clean and of sufficient size, bathroom renovated, breakfast excellent. The location was within convenient reach for some of the main museums. All in all a hotel I can recommend.

09.12.2002 Amanda (London)
The hotel was very nice - clean, comfortable and an excellent value. The bar was also a nice, cosy place to relax. I would recommend this hotel to others and will stay there again next time I'm in Amsterdam.

03.12.2002 barry (bristol)
Bad hotel for Smokers. Don't choose this hotel if you want to just smoke weed. Staff complained about the smell after 5 mins of lighting a joint. Had to keep window open and caught a cold. Cleaners ALWAYS come in early, after telling them to go away for a 5th *YES FIFTH TIME* I finally said come in and clean the room. Nice clean hotel in a quiet area, BUT terrible for a smoking holiday. If you like to smoke weed or sleep in, avoid this hotel.

01.12.2002 Jennifer (Edinburgh)
Hotel was good, nice location. My room in the attic was a little on the small side but apart from that it was great. Barman Amin was a star, told me where to eat and what to see as well as making me feel very welcome in his town.

03.11.2002 Victoria (San Francisco,California)
We enjoyed our stay at the Mercure very much. The staff were very pleasant and helpful with reccomendations. The rooms were very clean though a little small. The breakfast that was included was very nice. It was better than most European breakfast in that we could get hot eggs along with the buffet items. The location was very convient to all of Amsterdam. Nice also to be on a quiet street. I would highly recommend this hotel and look forward to staying there again myself.

03.08.2002 jack Rabinowitz (Israel)
Came to this hotel 14 years ago,and was very happy with it then,so I returned.

03.08.2002 Carl (USA)
Great location - 15 minute walk to Rembrandtplein, Ryksmuseum, Vondelpark - Tram at end of street. Good selection at breakfast and good cable tv selections (CNN, CNNWorld, BBC1, BBC2 and others)

19.07.2002 Tom M. (Arizona)
Hotel staff exceptional. They were helpful regarding providing ideas for "must see" sights and were very efficient otherwise.

16.07.2002 Andy (Chapel Hill, NC, USA)
Generally a very good and comfortable Hotel. A good location near the museums and out of the center craziness. Pretty quiet except for the early maids. Beds are very comfortable.

08.07.2002 Julie (United States)
This is a cute hotel in the perfect location for enjoying Amsterdam's museums. Nice big rooms and a good breakfast.

05.07.2002 Cathy Gayton (Toronto, Canada)
I enjoyed my stay at the Mercure Frommer hotel. The staff were very helpful and my room was very nice and well stocked with bathroom toiletries.

03.07.2002 Kelli (Washington, DC, USA)
I stayed at the hotel in June. I enjoyed my stay there. The hotel is situated in a nice part of Amsterdam, it is covenient to the city's attractions, but not overcome with tourists. The hotel staff was friendly (particularly the gentleman who runs the bar in the basement), and accommodating. I would stay there again without hesitation.

02.07.2002 Billy & Linda Price (Houston, Texas)
I love the nice CLEAN rooms at the hotel and everyone was very nice and helpfull. Looking forward to staying there again. Thanks

26.06.2002 David & Marian (Houston Texas)
This is a very nice hotel, especially quiet and within walking distance of everything. We would recommend it to anyone.

07.06.2002 Richard (London)
Excellent Hotel, Near centre & main tram route. On a quiet street, 2 mins walk from the tram line. Rooms clean & modern if a touch on the small side.

31.05.2002 Judy Earl (UK)
We had problems finding the hotel - we wouldn't recommend driving in Amsterdam. Once we found it the hotel was fine - comfortable room ( air conditioning was useful),nicely situated and very friendly. Our ground floor room was close to reception and a bit noisy - next time we'll ask for a room upstairs.

23.05.2002 Kristen (USA)
Very nice hotel, excellent central location. Large rooms, very quiet, well-equipped bathrooms. Great breakfast!

08.05.2002 AM & BB (North Carolina,USA)
Room was goodsized and shower was really large (by European standards). Had nice appointments and staff was helpful. We'd stay there again.

01.05.2002 John (Jack) H. Horn, Jr (Marietta, Ga. USA)
Stayed 2 nights in April 2002. Very nice stay. Conveniently located. Good price/value. Nice accomodations. Would recommend to others.

01.05.2002 Gabriella and JÊrÆme (Switzerland)
Had a good time in Amsterdam staying two nights in the Hotel Mercure Arthur Frommer. The photo on the website does not really match reality - the hotel being hidden between two small roads.

23.04.2002 Kate Evans (Liverpool, England)
The hotel was lovely - big windows, airy rooms and in a quieter part of Amsterdam, yet still right in the centre

14.04.2002 mark e (seattle)
Very comfy, clean hotel. Nice cheery rooms with big windows, lots of light, air conditioning, and nice bathrooms. Can't beat the location - very quiet, but right in the heart of the best part of Amsterdam (away from the neon cheese of the tourist zone!). Around the corner are the Amstel river, the many pretty bridges of the Regularstraat, the art museums and galleries etc. Nice service staff too.

13.04.2002 Derek (Bath, England)
A very clean and welcoming hotel (the air conditioning was great!)within easy reach of the popular parts of Amsterdam. It's location is in a quiet street off a main road into the centre. The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful and, as usual, put us British to shame with their linguistic abilities! My only disappointment was that there were no continental rolls for breakfast but UK-style soft ones! I would recommend this hotel to anyone.

09.04.2002 Wendy (USA)
This hotel was great! The room was kept clean, the staff was wonderful! They were helpful and went out of there way for us. I would stay there again. The hotel was close to everything and because it was a block off the main road it was quiet at night. Great place to stay!

02.04.2002 Robert Polston (USA)
I must tell you that it was very pleasant. We enjoyed our stay there very much. It was within walking distance of everything and I will most certainly book a room there again on my next vacation to Amsterdam which may be within the next 12 months. The staff was very courteous and helpful, the breakfast that was provided was very good. There were only 2 drawbacks--but I don't consider them major--the first was that the cleaning staff starts cleaning very early which makes it a bit difficult to sleep past 7:30-8:00 a.m. and the second is the fact that not many hotels in Europe seem to have soft drink machines, ice machines, or vending machines with snack items in the lobbys anywhere. We, in America, are spoiled with our hotels/motels carrying these items. But, as stated earlier, I consider these insignificant overall compared to the pleasantry of the stay. I also must make one final statement--my wife and I not only were pleased with the hotel, but we fell in love with Amsterdam and its people.

02.04.2002 janis (kilwinning,ayrshire, scotland)
When we eventually found the hotel!(directions could be a bit more detailed )we were pleased with what we saw. The hotel is situated in a quiet street about 10 mins walk from Dam Square or 2 tram stops for the lazy! The rooms were nice and clean and the bed most comfortable. The staff were very friendly and helpful especially Amin the barman who also recommended a few good places to eat - try the steakhouse down the street from the hotel. We would definately stay again.

27.03.2002 Mister Honest (Washington DC)
Nice clean rooms. The staff was friendly and the location is pretty good. Its not right in the middle of everything but is less than a 5 min walk to all the attractions. Visit the Persian resturant down the alley, they make a great salmon of all things. If you are feeling to lazy to walk anywhere the tram is a block away and takes your straight into the heart of the city.

20.03.2002 Tom Haney (Nova Scotia)
All arrangements went very smoothly. The hotel was just as described. I would certainly recommend this hotel; it was clean and quiet and the staff was very helpful. The location is close to all the main sights yet private.

15.03.2002 Sarah (Pennsylvania)
We found the Mercure Arthur Frommer to have a staff that was very willing to help, and we very much liked our room up on the third floor. It was cozier - in a good way - than the room we had been shown earlier on the second floor with twin beds. We appreciated having a TV with several English channels, and we also liked the extensive Continental breakfast with cereals, yogurt, lunchmeats, cheese, and a choice of many different types of bread and juice. The location, though we had a little trouble finding it the first jet-lagged day, was very convenient to the trolleys but also quiet at night. Two thumbs up!

14.03.2002 sharon nolan (ireland)
I had a very enjoyable stay, the staff were helpful in all aspects and I would recommend to anyone.

04.03.2002 Brian (Amerika)
Place was great. Friendly staff, good breakfast, clean rooms. Easy walk to the tram for us lazy ones and it is only a few minutes from there. Would stay there again.

03.12.2001 Graham Blake (Northenden, Manchester, England)
With reference to my recent 4 day stay at your hotel on 29/11/01 , I write in order to state that i really had a very pleasant stay at your hotel. The level of service was very good and all the staff were very nice especially the tall blond Dutch girl who works in the side room near the reception. I have stayed in many hotels around the world and usually stay at 4/5 star hotels however although i appreciate that your hotel is a 3 star the level of service was very good and often better than many 4/5 star hotels that i have stayed at. Please pass on my thanks to all your staff concerned.

You can't beat that old world charm! Beautiful hotel. I would recommend it to others!

This was the first time we stayed in a mercure hotel. It was a very pleasant experience and good quality for money! We would certainly like to stay in thi s hotel again. p.s. Very good 'hidden' restaurants are within walking distance from the hotel.

What a lovely hotel! It was very nicely situated. We could walk everywhere. And so romantic!
